This might not be clear in my comics and what not, but I really enjoy reading fantasy and science fiction. I’ve even written some from time to time when my heart’s in it.
Well, my heart is in it now.
I went on a trip to the Maritimes this past summer and read a book that I ended up not liking. I thought that I could do a better job at this and started compiling ideas that have turned into a larger universe.
I started the first chapter of a book and then scrapped it. Had this been me in my 20s, the story would have ended there. I would have been down on myself, telling myself that I’m unworthy of storytelling. But now, with a decade of true love and SSRIs, I’m treating writing the way it’s meant to be treated: like a piece of wood.
When you carve wood, you don’t stop after one bad cut. You chip away until you get something close to what you had in mind. And well, I’ve rewritten that first chapter three times and I’m close to what I had in mind.
So you’ll still see some comics on this site, but you’ll also see some writing. I might publish some book chapters, although, you’re more likely to see some short stories and flash fiction that I’ve farted out.
My stuff might not always be funny (unlike my comics, right?), but it’ll be from the heart.
I’ll be posting my stories here and on Substack (https://substack.com/@denisljgagne).
Enjoy!
